Everyone prefer a faster loading site to a slower site. People usually browse away or just press the 'back' button when a site takes too long to load. But then, many would say that "I have a cool front page, just give it some time to load". This might be true but what if they waited and when it finally load and they found out that the design is not as eye catching as expected. Imagine the frustration of waiting for some time only to see a badly designed site. This is one of the main criteria which separates the good, the bad and the exceptional.

Site Design
A site might contain rich information where it is unavailable anywhere else. However, if the design does not catch the first look of a visitor, the chances are that the visitor will most probably browse onwards to a more attractive site. The tough thing is to build a site which is visually stimulating while at the same time speedy.

Navigation Friendly
A very beautifully designed site might make you stared in awe and envy for a while. But then suddenly, you found yourself lost in their site without helpful navigational links and you'll have to rely on the back button to go back to where you were. This might not be a problem is it happens a few times, but if more, a frustrated visitor is the result from this. So just remember when you're designing a site, always take the site's navigation tool into considerations.

Content
Now comes the content part. Once you caught the attention of the visitors, it's time to bewitched them with the tonnes of rich information on your site. If you're successful, no doubt that this visitor will be bookmark your site for future reference and might even tell their friends about it. Think about the possibility of a sudden burst of visitors coming in!

Interactive
Many surfers love to enjoy themselves online. What better way than to entertain them while they are on your site. How you might ask. That's many ideas around this particular topic alone but here's a few. Try using like postcard services, surveys, feedbacks, contest and message boards. Once a visitor is smitten by these 4 factors, there's no doubt you just got yourself another frequent visitor.

Credits and Acknowledgement
This part is not very important in other types of sites but they are in anime sites. This is because every anime is created by someone and hence to respect their work, at least credits and acknowledgements should be given. Also credits should be given to anyone who helped directly or indirectly as anime sites are like a community in the WWW. Anime surfers also has the knack of permanently boycotting sites which unlawfully credit themself for something they didn't do. So now you have first hand knowledge to avoid this misfortune.

News Section
As all sites are always under construction, a News or Update page in your site would be very handy in directing returning visitors to new pages. Many would prefer just leaving a link of updated then and then, but if the visitor couldn't find what's been updated, they would usually feel a bit irritated and leave, with a bad impression of your site.

The X - Factor
This is one of the hardest to explain. The X - Factor resides in every site in the WWW. For anime sites, these are the mysterious attracting power of certain sites. However, the exact reason are never known. Some site even though look a bit dull are still very popular, while some which are lively attracts only a smaller amount of visitors. But then perhaps, the X- Factor can be credited to the way a certain Anime site is designed too.

Friendly Webmaster
Well sometimes you feel so satisfied in a site that you have to email the webmaster to thank and praise him on his work. The last thing you would expect is an arrogant reply and even self praisings. Some won't even reply the mail. However, I think that to maintain interactivity and a site's magical touch, the webmaster has to be friendly and helpful at times. We are online to make a few more friends too.

No stealing pictures off other's servers
This is one of the main reason for sudden increase in bandwidth of certain sites. Sites which are found remote linking the images from another's server are just bandwidth stealers, receiving credits for another's work. Another tough task when maintaining sites is keeping the webspace usage low while providing more content and eye candies. However, if the owner of the server permits such usage, then this factor is considered negligible.
